Breathing Techniques for the Yoga Beginners

This exercise deals with the breathing process. This exercise is useful for cleansing and strengthening the body. As you go along with this exercise you will feel your mind becoming more relaxed and calmer. This also helps you to stay focused.

If you are new to the yoga concept then you should know a few things about the breathing exercise as it can help you a lot as you carry forward.

There are some techniques of breathing that you will have to follow.

Four Essential Yoga Breathing Exercises:
Among the four breathing technique we you are going to read now, first comes the abdominal breathing. You will have to lie down flat on your back. Keep your legs and arms apart from the body and from each other. Maintain a distance of 2 feet between two legs and a distance of 6-12 inches between your arms. Keep your palm facing upward and stay relaxed and loosen up the whole body. Now start breathing. Keep your breathing slow and steady. Feel the abdomen rise when you inhale and shrink when you exhale.

The next is full yogic breathing. This process requires you to sit in a crossed leg position. When you are in the position, keep your right hand on your chest and the left one on the abdomen. Now you will have to inhale deeply and take the air to abdomen. You will feel your left hand rising. Now take the air to the upper chest and feel your left hand rising. Now exhale in the same way to feel the hands falling. Keep on repeating it for 3-5 times.

Then, come to the Alternate Nostril breathing. You will have to sit with your legs crossed legs. Keep your spine straight and relax your body. Paying attention to your right finger is very important to do this exercise. First bend the index and middle finger leaving the thumb, ring and small finger straight. Use your thumb to close down your right nostril and the ring finger and small finger to close the left nostril. First close your right nostril and inhale through the left one for 4 seconds. Then close both the nostrils and hold your breath to a count of 16. Remove your thumb and exhale through right nostril to a count of 8. Try to repeat this process for at least 5-10 times on a daily basis.

The other one is yogic cleansing breath. Sit in a relaxed mood and make yourself comfortable. Keep your spine straight and your eyes closed. Breathe in through your nose for a count of three and exhale through your nose for a count of 6. Repeat the whole process for at least 5 times.
